What on earth is up with America's obsession with Barack Obama? Now I'm gonna try to be unbiased on this one, so opinion aside: What is so great about Barack? The news is covered with articles about the thousands of people that show up to his rallies, and his recent wins over the weekend make him the democratic frontrunner by delegate count. But whats so great about him? He is possibly the most liberal Senator in congress--maybe appealing for some. He has little experience. I hear people say that he is best person to bring the change badly needed to our country. How on earth did he become qualified to do that? So far during his 3 years in the Senate he has voted present more times than yes or no. His name is on no significant bill of legislation and his 1997 to 2004 term as a state legislator of Illinois produced nothing of significance - correct me if I'm wrong, I've read what he authored. However, he claims that he is the candidate for change. A leader is one who has proven himself to stand up in difficult times and rally America. Well, Obama certainly is rallying America, but has he really proven himself?
I find it amazing the way people are reacting to it. The pictures make the man look like a rock star the way people trample over each other to touch his hand. Recently, a senior advisor on McCain's campaign said that if Obama was the democratic nominee, he could not publicly help John McCain. He stated that he just liked Obama too much to run against him (he did note that he would still vote for McCain). Also, President's clintons old campaign manager, David Wilhelm, officially endorsed Barack Obama today. Who's next Huckabee (granted that will mean nothing)?
What are your thoughts? I want your opinion as to why this man is so hot?

I must confess, I kinda like him. With Mitt out, I have considered him. I just have an aversion to all the other candidates.
P.S. Get rid of the word verification, they are SOOOO annoying!
Ok, so I'm voting because McCain is an alien from Star Wars. Look at this:

now put that next to a photo of McCain. Creepy resemblance.
Hey, we're already voting for people just because they're black or a woman, why note also vote for them because they're an alien? Sounds good to me.
Like the music man. Too bad you had to go with blogspot, that's like a knife to a web developer's heart man.
Well Ben i'm not to up on your politics even though they cover a fair bit on news here in the UK lately, but I know you are pretty well informed and trust you know enough to make those comments.
It's pretty scary though to think that Obama who has no real history and hasn't really done anything of any significance could be running your country in a years time. But hopefully if he gets in he will have some more experience folk around him giving him advice.
It is going to be an interesting run up to your elections in November.
I have to say that I LOVE Obama!I don't usually get into American politics since I can't vote, and it goes on for TOO LONG! Despite this, I really am excited about a new president. I think Obama's enthusiasm is just what America needs after the dreadful mess of the current presidency. Lets be honest, do you really want a man running America who is in his 70's??? Not to be blunt but he might not be around for his term, and don't get me started on that but we all know he's gravy trained off his POW far too long! Although Obama doesn't have lots of experience, he is a great orator, passionate and diplomatic (which is a head start on the current president already!) He may not have the most experienced resume but lets be honest, the most lengthy and experienced resumes in the White House come from those such as Rumsfeld and Bush. Does having experience and a great resume mean you are good at what you're doing?! Need I say more?!!!! Vote Obama!
Hi Ben, neat to see you taking a turn at blogging. Keep it up!
As a democrat, I'm having a hard time with our possible nominees. Hillary's always seemed a bit underhanded to me and Obama is interesting, but I think he's a charismatic lightweight. He's got a lot of charisma but no experience with heavy lifting. Then again, neither candidate has had a hand running a state as a governor, an important stepping stone to me. Between the two of them, I'm going for Hillary. She might not have the sparkle of Obama but she's got a lot more experience to stand on.
Ben,
Watch a couple of his speeches on you tube or some other site.
He knows how to hit that emotional piece inside that just makes you love him.
You have to step back and use brains, thinking, to evaluate the other stuff... like that he has NO experience, keeps making mistakes of inexperience especially in foreign affairs.
The young I can get - they don't know how to evaluate beyond superficial.
Bush had NO experience. To those who keep saying he did & look where it got us - didn't you pay attention in 2000? The joke was how LITTLE experience he had. That was one of Gore's compaign point against him & the media agreed. So LOOK where very LITTLE experience has gotten us?
What gets me is he sells himself as above politics as usual. Then as that message gets inconvenient, he now plays politics just fine. (His comment that McCain has lost his bearings, how obvious was that?, etc.)
Good words.
